There are 50 Golden Film Reels hidden throughout the city, and each one is labeled with an actual noir movie title from the era. For example, “Sunset Boulevard” is a 1950s American film noir directed and co-written by Billy Wilder, staring William Holden and Gloria Swanson. This section of the guide provides precise locations for all 50 reels.
1. THE BIG SLEEP
In Hollywood, under a small water tower at the west end of Hollywood Blvd, where the trolley tracks loop for a turnaround.2. THE LETTER
Just north of the Crossroads of the World in Hollywood. From Selma Ave, climb the first set of stairs on your left to reach the hidden film reel on the second level townhouse porch.3. BRUTE FORCE
In Hollywood, just above the first “I” in “Hollywood” on the in-game map. Find the short dead-end road west from Schrader Blvd. The film reel is on the sidewalk between the end of the short residential road and a public football field.4. NIGHTMARE ALLEY
Find the two-story shopping area, just north of Franklin Ave in Hollywood, near the Ivar Ave intersection. Enter the alley on the west side of the shops. The film reel is at the end of a narrow walkway and beside some dumpsters. Look below the captain character on the Capt’n Saltee potato chip billboard.5. WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS
On the ground behind the large column at the entrance to The Palladium theater on Sunset Blvd, between Vine St and El Centro Ave. Currently on the marquee: The Big Sleep and The Lady From Shanghai.6. GILDA
Behind the Circle K gas station in Hollywood at the intersection of Cahuenga Blvd and De Longpre Ave. Look on the ground, between two large palm trees.7. IN A LONELY PLACE
Find the Hawaii Mini Golf course on El Centro Ave in south Hollywood. The film reel is on the eighth tee.8. ODD MAN OUT
On the back porch of this turquoise bungalow in the neighborhood off of St Andrews PI (located at the end of the “d” in “Hollywood” on the in-game map).9. THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER
Find the south entrance into the Hillside Motel’s courtyard. Then look on the ground in the northeast corner of the motel’s pool.10. THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE
In a small park beside Samuel’s Delicatessen, off of Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood. Look in the grass near a birdbath.
